I. Main Types and Raw Materials

C5 Petroleum Resin:

Using cracked carbon five fraction as raw material, softening point 80-120℃, suitable for hot melt road sign paint, can improve the toughness, hardness and adhesion of the paint film, and form a smooth surface.

Typical products such as Hengfeng Petrochemical D0203 Resin, acid value ≤1 mgKOH/g, color number 6#, suitable for cement and asphalt pavement.

Coumarone Resin:

Using coal tar as raw material, it has strong weather resistance and is suitable for high and low temperature alternating environments. It is often used in combination with C5 resin to optimize the balance between cost and performance.

Zehao brand Coumarone Resin supports customized specifications and is suitable for ordinary road sign paint and special pavements (such as bridges and tunnels).

II. Core Performance Requirements

Weather Resistance:

It needs to withstand UV aging (ΔE＜2.0@500 hours) and extreme temperatures (-40~70℃), and antioxidants and UV absorbers are added to extend the service life.

Leveling and adhesion:

The resin used for oscillating road marking paint must have low viscosity (≤1000 mPa·s) and high fluidity to ensure that the marking paint dries quickly (surface drying ≤5 minutes) and is tightly bonded to the road surface.

Environmental protection:

Complies with RoHS standards, VOC content <50 g/L, some models have passed FDA food contact material certification, and are suitable for sensitive areas such as schools and hospitals.

3. Application scenarios and process adaptation

Ordinary road marking:

Use C5 petroleum resin-based paint, with stable color (whiteness ≥90%) and excellent wear resistance (wear resistance value ≤50 mg/1000 revolutions).

Oscillating road marking:

Use modified C5 resin to improve the toughness and anti-settling properties of the paint, suitable for highway curves, ramps and other areas that require reflective warnings.

Special for cement pavement:

The Coumarone resin compound system can enhance the adhesion to the cement substrate (peel strength ≥2.5 MPa) and the water resistance is more than 48 hours.

IV. Selection Recommendations

Selection points:

Climate adaptation: Rainy areas should give priority to high water resistance models (water absorption rate <0.5%), and cold areas should pay attention to low temperature crack resistance (-30℃ no cracking).

Construction process: Low viscosity resin (≤800 mPa·s) is recommended for spraying process, and thixotropic type (thixotropic index >2.5) can be selected for scraping process.

Road marking paint resin is modified by raw materials (such as C5/C9 compounding) and functional additives are added to continuously improve the durability and environmental protection of markings, and adapt to the refined needs of smart transportation for road markings.
