I. Basic characteristics

Chemical composition and structure

It is made of C9 fraction, a byproduct of ethylene cracking, through polymerization or copolymerization, with a molecular weight range of 300-3000 and oligomer form.

The molecular structure does not contain polar groups, has excellent acid and alkali resistance (pH tolerance range 3-12), and outstanding water resistance and weather resistance.

Physical parameters

Appearance: light yellow to light brown solid, in the form of flakes, granules or blocks, and the transparency varies depending on the color number (5# to 18#).

Softening point: 80-140℃ (determined by the ring and ball method), which can be adjusted through the process; high softening point models (such as 110-140℃) are suitable for high temperature scenes.

Solubility: easily soluble in organic solvents such as toluene, xylene, acetone, etc., and has good compatibility with polymer materials such as SBR and SBS.

2. Core application areas

Rubber industry

As a radial tire carcass rubber tackifier, it enhances the bonding strength between steel cord and rubber and reduces the risk of rubber delamination.

Adding 3-8% to styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) products can improve tear resistance and wear resistance.

Adhesives and sealing materials

Used in SBS hot melt adhesive and pressure-sensitive adhesive systems to replace rosin resin to reduce costs and reduce the risk of yellowing.

Water-soluble carbon nine resin (modified by copolymerization) can be used in oilfield chemicals, such as drilling mud diluents and water stabilizers.

Coatings and inks

Adding to high-gloss coatings can improve the hardness and weather resistance of the paint film; in inks, it is used to enhance printing clarity and drying speed.

SBS resin is compounded in road asphalt modification to improve anti-rutting performance and road life.

3. Advantages and disadvantages analysis

Advantages:

High chemical stability, oxidation resistance, aging resistance, and wide application scenarios (such as outdoor coatings, chemical anti-corrosion environments);

Good processing fluidity, easy to blend and modify with rubber, plastics and other materials.

Limitations:

The price is higher than some alternatives (such as coumarone resin), dark resin has low transparency, and needs to be selected according to demand;

The performance is limited when used alone, and it needs to be compounded with other resins to balance viscosity, weather resistance and other indicators.
